We all love cake here at Gecko. So what better excuse for a bake off than the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
We had an amazing spread but it wasn’t all plain sailing, there were some serious baking dramas. Steve’s bake took a turn for the worst and it was aptly named “are you tough enough?” as it was highly likely you’d lose a tooth when trying to chomp. Maisie decorated her kitchen and clothes in icing sugar as she dropped a whole bag when trying to get just a little bit in a sieve and Dan, well his cookies could tile a roof.
Aside from the culinary disasters there were some truly scrumptious bakes: a decadent chocolate torte, classic fairy cakes and mini Victoria sponges. Our guys in production had a selection of cakes delivered to the factory – Roy the Handyman bought a whopping £10 worth of cake for his lunch box!
We were spoiled for choice and it was tough for our judges Kate (Berry) & Chris (Hollywood). Ultimately though, there could only be one winner. And it was…the Lemon Drizzle cake, baked by Jonathan Olesker. But hey we were all winners really, it was great to get together and enjoy a mid morning snack for a good cause.
We raised £200 for Macmillan, which is a fantastic effort all in a morning’s work. Well done team Gecko!
As we look around the office, it’s fair to say that everyone’s still feeling the effects of this morning’s sugar and carb overload. Maybe it’s time for round 2…
