Gecko’s charity of the year is Marty’s Penny Bank a charity set up by local Mum Sarah to support the work of Cardiomyopathy UK. When Sarah’s son, Marty was diagnosed with disease of the heart muscle before he was born he was not given much chance of survival, but happily he’s now a boisterous, lively 4 year old living a near normal life  under the watchful eye of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Cardiomyopathy UK have been a huge support to Marty and his family and many other families in similar situations.

As part of our fundraising efforts, Gecko hosted a Go-Karting event back in May at Chequered Flag Karting in Guiseley.  26 drivers from Gecko were joined by competitors from suppliers, customers and Marty’s family giving a total of 48 drivers, in teams of 4, taking part.  A full on, exciting afternoon of racing followed as everyone took to the track to take part in heats and semis to earn a place in the Grand Final.  8 drivers fought their way through the field to earn a place on the final grid with Gary Hickey from Team Impression racing to victory.  Team Impression also accumulated enough points from their 4 drivers to take the team trophy as well!

Of course a prize giving ceremony was in order and we moved to The White Swan in Yeadon for a fun filled event complete with raffle and auction, with Marty helping to compere. With entry fees, raffle, auction and donations we have raised an incredible £4,000.00 – completely shattering our initial expectations.

Special thanks to Team Impression, PPL, Made Together, Print On, Mecca, Chequered Flag Guiseley and The White Swan Yeadon for their support. The fund is still open so anyone who would like to pledge their support can do so via our just giving page.

Our next event is the Gecko sports day – watch this space for more news!
