Gecko staff lace up their running shoes…

Two of our Gecko ladies, Rhi and Kate from the accounts team have raised a fantastic £1,726 for The Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, based at Leeds General Infirmary by running the Valencia marathon in Spain.

As they lined up on Sunday 16th November, with nerves jingling and pulses racing, Rhi and Kate joined over 11,000 competitors from all over the world. Both were determined to finish the race knowing their friends, family and colleagues back home were supporting them even though the finish line was such a long way off… a daunting prospect to say the least.

With tired legs and burning muscles Rhi and Kate persevered with true Gecko spirit, kept their focus and just kept going and going, mile after mile until they both crossed the finish line.

“On behalf of the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund I would like to say a huge thank you to Rhi and Kate on raising such a fantastic amount and to Gecko for their kind contribution. The money raised will go towards supporting the 10,000 children with congenital heart defects that CHSF helps every year, funding vital equipment and staff posts.”

Anyone who has ever run a marathon or even a half marathon can appreciate the tremendous commitment needed to succeed; the hours of training pounding the pavement for endless miles in all types of weather, never mind the actual run itself!

Well done Rhi and Kate from everyone at Gecko – London next year?
