Well the big day is nearly here!  This evening 4 teams of Gecko staff and friends will be heading up to the Lake District to take part in the gruelling Race the Sun event which takes place tomorrow.  The event involves a 50 mile bike ride, hike to the summit of England’s second highest mountain, Helvellyn, and a 3km canoe across Lake Thirlmere, all between sunrise and sunset – quite a challenge I’m sure you’ll agree!  As you can imagine, the teams are all very excited (and a little bit scared!) but they are well prepared having completed months of training to ensure the event is a success.

We love a challenge here at Gecko and are taking up this fantastic challenge in support of Action Medical Research for Children.  For over 60 years Action Medical Research has been funding major medical breakthroughs including the development of the UK polio vaccine, introducing ultrasound scanning and discovering the link between taking folic acid in pregnancy and preventing spina bifida.  The charity relies on voluntary donations and by raising as much as we can, we aim to help AMR fund further research to prevent and treat disease and disability in babies and children.

So, if you would like to support our efforts then you can sponsor us here: https://www.justgiving.com/Geckodirect/.  We really do appreciate the support and it will help spur the teams on tomorrow when their legs are getting tired (which will hopefully be near the end).  Wish us luck!
