We take our baking & charity duties very seriously at Gecko…
On Friday we held another Gecko Bake Off; a chance for any budding Mary Berry’s to showcase their baking skills and to win the coveted title of Best Gecko Baker. It always proves to be good fun with much speculation over who’s baked what and did they really bake it themselves?
Who can forget the Betty Crocker scandal a few years back when one contestant who will remain nameless (we won’t name and shame them on here) was caught out for using Betty Crocker packet mix (tut tut)!? In all seriousness the Bake Off is one of our regular charity events with all proceeds from Friday’s event going to our charity of the year, Marty’s Penny Bank (supporting Cardiomyopathy UK).
Marty is a local boy who was diagnosed with disease of the heart muscle before he was born. Whilst at the time, he was not given much chance of survival, he’s now a happy 4 year old living a near normal life but under the watchful eye of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Marty’s Penny Bank supports Cardiomyopathy UK who have been a great support to Marty and his family and many other families in similar situations. We are really pleased to be able to support this great cause and it was lovely to have Marty’s Mum Sarah, Grandma and Sister all here with us on Friday for the event.
Once again, it was a great turnout with many people taking part in the baking and even more taking part in the eating! In the end, we decided that with so many great entries it was too hard to judge a winner and we were far too busy stuffing our faces with cake that we kind of forgot about that bit. The total raised on the day was £270 (we obviously like our cake here!) so another successful Bake Off!
